Chad recorded a rainfall deficit this season. In response, the Head of State has announced emergency measures to strengthen national resilience. The goal: to head off an agricultural and pastoral crisis.
President Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno said Chad is “taking all necessary measures, starting now, to strengthen the resilience of our nation.”
To anticipate supply shortages, Mahamat Deby has “firmly instructed” the government to act promptly and build up strategic food reserves. Officials will also roll out commercial and fiscal measures to stabilize markets and protect purchasing power.
The State has pledged its full support for citizens. Farmers and livestock herders are a particular focus. Mahamat Deby said the government will “remain fully mobilized” to address the shortfall in crop yields and grazing lands.
