The Patriotic Salvation Movement (MPS) is marking 36 years since its founding, highlighting the party’s long-standing role in the country’s political life.
Founded in 1990 by Chad’s first Marshal Idriss Deby Itno, the MPS has remained a central force in Chadian politics for more than three decades. Since 2021, the party has been led by his son, Marshal Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno.
Supporters say the party has focused on maintaining stability and security during periods of political transition and regional challenges.
However, opposition groups and some observers have raised concerns over electoral transparency and the participation of opposition parties in the political process.
The anniversary offers an opportunity for the MPS to reflect on its political legacy and its role in shaping the country’s governance.
