U.S. Chargé d’Affaires in Chad William Flens has highlighted Moundou’s economic potential during a visit to southern Chad focused on development, investment and community engagement.
Speaking during meetings with local authorities and business representatives, Flens pointed to opportunities in agriculture and mining.

“There is so much potential here, especially in the agricultural sector and the mining sector,” he said. “There’s a lot of talent here waiting to be developed.”
Moundou was the first stop of the American diplomat’s visit to southern Chad. During the trip, he met officials from the Logone Oriental and Logone Occidental provinces, as well as members of local chambers of commerce.
Flens also toured major companies, including Brasseries du Tchad and Coton Tchad Société Nouvelle, where discussions focused on economic activity and investment prospects.
Alongside economic issues, the diplomat stressed the importance of health and community well-being in development efforts.
“You have to have a healthy community if you want to develop economically,” he said.
The U.S. diplomat also met Catholic and Evangelical leaders to discuss community cohesion. He is expected to visit the provincial hospital as part of the mission.
According to Flens, the United States has invested more than $25 million through UNICEF to support programs addressing malnutrition among children and pregnant women in Chad.

The visit concluded at the Hope Training Center in Moundou, where Flens met students learning English.
