President Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno began a working visit to Nigeria on Thursday, April 2, at the invitation of his Nigerian counterpart, in a move aimed at strengthening bilateral ties between the two countries.
The visit comes a day after the formation of Chad’s new government and signals N’Djamena’s intent to consolidate key regional partnerships early in the new administration.
Discussions between the two leaders are expected to focus on regional security and economic cooperation.
Security talks will center on efforts to combat terrorism in the Lake Chad Basin, including the revitalization of the Multinational Joint Task Force.
On the economic front, both sides are expected to explore ways to facilitate cross-border trade and advance joint infrastructure projects.
Chad and Nigeria share a strategic border and face common challenges, particularly the Boko Haram insurgency and the environmental pressures affecting the Lake Chad region.
