Chad’s National Assembly opened its second ordinary session of 2026 on Tuesday, September 1, at the Palace of Democracy in N’Djamena.
National Assembly President Ali Kolotou Tchaïmi outlined the main issues facing lawmakers during the session.
The Assembly will focus mainly on the 2027 state budget. MPs will also consider government ordinances adopted during the parliamentary recess.

Security and national unity also featured prominently in Tchaïmi’s address.
He condemned the recent airstrikes attributed to Sudanese forces on Chadian territory. He said Chad must not become “the theatre, nor the extension” of fighting outside its borders.
Tchaïmi also addressed the conduct of lawmakers, particularly on social media.
He called on MPs to use their freedom of expression responsibly. He said public statements should respect people and state institutions.
The Speaker announced that the Assembly will begin work on a Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct for MPs.
“The freedom of the mandate is a guarantee of democracy; responsibility in speech is its corollary,” he said.
The session will also address recent intercommunal violence in Batha Province. Tchaïmi called for restraint, dialogue and responsibility.
He said no disagreement or dispute can justify Chadians killing other Chadians.
The second ordinary session will continue with legislative work and parliamentary oversight in the coming months.
