Évian, France — Leaders of the world’s leading industrialized democracies have gathered in Évian, France, for the 2026 G7 Summit, which runs from June 15 to 17. During the three-day meeting, they will discuss major international issues ranging from security and economic stability to emerging technologies.
U.S. President Donald Trump is among the leaders attending the summit. Meanwhile, French President Emmanuel Macron is hosting what could be one of the last major international gatherings of his presidency before France’s 2027 elections.
What is the G7?
The Group of Seven, or G7, is an informal forum that brings together seven of the world’s largest advanced economies. The members include Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States. Although it is not counted among the seven members, the European Union also participates in G7 discussions.
Together, these countries account for a large share of the global economy. Consequently, their decisions often have a significant impact on international affairs.
Last year, Canada hosted the summit in Alberta.
Key Issues on the Agenda
This year’s summit comes at a time of growing geopolitical tensions and economic uncertainty. Therefore, leaders will focus on several pressing challenges.
