National Tree Week 2026 concludes in Biltine as Minister Hassan Bakhit Djamous completes Wadi Fira tour

The 54th National Tree Week 2026 has officially concluded in Wadi Fira Province on 26th July 2026 following a week-long awareness and reforestation tour led by the Minister of Environment, Fisheries and Sustainable Development, Mr. Hassan Bakhit Djamous.

The Minister and his delegation visited 8 stops across the province in this order: Arada → Matadjana → Iriba → Tiné → Dougouba → Guéréda → Am-Zoer → Biltine. The tour focused on environmental protection, peaceful coexistence, and the ongoing 3rd General Population and Housing Census, RGPH-3.

  1. Arada
    The tour began in Arada on 20th July 2026. Minister Hassan Bakhit Djamous launched provincial activities and met administrative authorities, traditional leaders and residents. He called for community mobilization around reforestation and the fight against desertification.
  2. Matadjana
    In Matadjana, Minister Hassan Bakhit Djamous first addressed the community and delivered his 3 national priorities:
    1.⁠ ⁠Peace and Unity – Peace and social cohesion are a shared responsibility. Citizens must embrace solidarity, tolerance and mutual respect.
    2.⁠ ⁠RGPH-3 – The census provides reliable data to guide public policy and meet community needs. Full participation was urged.
    3.⁠ ⁠Environmental Protection – Reforestation and preservation of natural resources are practical tools to fight desertification and climate change.

After delivering the priorities, he held an open dialogue with women, youth and community leaders on local environmental challenges and development needs.

  1. Iriba
    The delegation made a working visit to Iriba. Meetings with local authorities centered on strengthening community participation in conservation efforts and mobilizing citizens for RGPH-3.
  2. Tiné
    In Tiné, Minister Hassan Bakhit Djamous first met with local authorities, traditional leaders, and technical partners to discuss environmental degradation and National Tree Week objectives.
    Following the meeting, he took part in a tree planting operation as part of the national campaign to restore degraded land and protect communities from drought.
  3. Dougouba
    In Dougouba, Minister Hassan Bakhit Djamous presided over the inauguration of the new MPS office. He commended the initiative and highlighted the role of political and community structures in promoting peace, unity, and citizen mobilization for national programs including RGPH-3 and environmental protection.
  4. Guéréda
    In Guéréda, Minister Hassan Bakhit Djamous continued awareness activities. He emphasized the importance of tree planting in combating climate change and urged citizens to take ownership of environmental protection.
  5. Am-Zoer
    Am-Zoer recorded a large turnout of administrative, civil and military authorities, traditional leaders, and citizens.
    Minister Hassan Bakhit Djamous reiterated the 3 priorities of peace, census participation, and reforestation, and commended the community’s strong mobilization.
    The Am-Zoer visit marked the final community engagement before the closing.
  6. Biltine – Closing
    National Tree Week 2026 was officially closed in Biltine on 26th July 2026. Minister Hassan Bakhit Djamous planted trees alongside local authorities, traditional leaders and citizens. No formal ceremony was held, in line with the campaign’s emphasis on action over words.

Throughout the tour from Arada to Biltine, Minister Hassan Bakhit Djamous stressed that protecting the environment, participating in RGPH-3, and promoting peace must go together.

“Planting trees today is an investment in tomorrow,” he said.

Djinodji Solmengar Rodrigue is a journalist with MRTV English, Chad’s first English-language media outlet, where he led English-language news coverage at its launch. Based in N’Djamena, his reporting explores political, economic, and social developments, with particular attention to everyday realities, informal sectors, and cultural life. His work also extends to football and broader societal issues, approached through field reporting and in-depth storytelling. Beyond reporting, Djinodji regularly conducts interviews focused on education, including the teaching of English in Chad, as well as conversations (with AFROTRONIX, to name a few) on culture and music. He is also active as an English–French interpreter, working alongside international media professionals. In this capacity, he recently supported and interpreted for a delegation of foreign journalists, including BBC representatives, during the PND Chad Connexion 2030 mission. Alongside his professional practice, Djinodji is pursuing a PhD, with research centered on the presence of China and Russia in Africa as portrayed in selected Commonwealth online media. His academic interests lie at the intersection of media, geopolitics, and discourse analysis. Earlier in his career, he taught English and authored a Master’s thesis examining the contextualization of English language teaching in Chad, reflecting a sustained engagement with educational challenges and policy.
