IRIBA, Wadi Fira Province, July 22, 2026 – The Minister of Environment, Fisheries and Sustainable Development, Mr. Hassan Bakhit Djamous, continued the 54th National Tree Week mission in Iriba, capital of Iriba Department.
The visit focused on two national priorities: the 3rd General Population and Housing Census, RGPH-3, and environmental protection.
The Prefect of Iriba Department, Mr. Teodet Fignal, said RGPH-3 operations in the department are progressing well. He called on residents not yet counted to cooperate with census agents.
The Sultan of Dar Zakhawa, Mr. Bakhit Abdraman Haggar, speaking for traditional leaders, urged citizens to take part in both the census and environmental protection efforts.
Minister Djamous told residents that the census will help guide development and improve living conditions. He added that protecting the environment is key to fighting desertification and climate change.
The next day, the Minister led a tree planting operation at the official platform in Iriba, with administrative and traditional authorities.
Authorities said both the census and environmental protection are important for sustainable development in Iriba.
